Domestic vs Imported Bearings: Is There a Real Gap? ( Ⅱ)

Domestic vs Imported Bearings: Is There a Real Gap? ( Ⅱ)

2026-08-14

Is it true that domestic‑produced bearings lag behind imported alternatives? As a bearing factory with more than 20 years in the industry, I would say the real‑world situation is much more complicated.

As we covered in the last segment, due to the Gresham’s law (bad money drives out good), domestic general‑purpose bearings have long been stigmatized as “short service life and poor stability”. Imported brands are mandatorily specified for applications requiring high reliability. Despite technological breakthroughs in high‑end special bearings, domestic standard bearings continue to lose core market share. This is not an unsolvable deadlock. The root cause is not human factors, but three deficiencies within the system.

Deficiencies in Acceptance System

There exists a void in visual inspection and standardized acceptance workflows. To tackle this problem, the workshop of Ningbo Kent Bearing is fitted with hardness testers, metallographic inspection stations, vibration testing instruments and service‑life comparison fixtures. Non‑obvious quality parameters are subject to on‑site verification, satisfying the high‑specification requirements of engineers.

Oversimplified Procurement Assessment

The practice of awarding bids solely based on the lowest price lacks a full‑life‑cycle cost‑accounting mechanism. Audits assess only the unit price of a single procurement, failing to factor in hidden costs including equipment downtime and maintenance fees, replacement labour costs, and production‑line outage losses. Hence, the overall benefits of high‑quality bearings at a higher price point cannot be quantified.

Ningbo Kent Bearing rejects ostentatious quality claims. We stick firmly to our principles in pursuing cost‑performance. While we may not satisfy all price‑oriented expectations, we remain a benchmark for product quality.

Disconnect Between Industry Supply‑side and Demand‑side Standards

No mandatory rules exist for grading and marking of general‑purpose bearings. The domestic market for general‑purpose bearings has no compulsory grade‑labelling specifications. Identical model numbers cover basic, precision, high‑temperature and long‑life variants without clear distinction. Manufacturers may arbitrarily reduce product specifications, making it impossible for procurement staff and engineers to rapidly identify product quality grades. Ningbo Kent Bearing supplies free bearing inspection reports to enable motor manufacturers to differentiate bearing quality.
